This presentation will assist the practitioner in understanding assessment and evaluation within the RTI framework. The session will include strategies on; how to define what is educationally relevant/not relevant, what tools to utilize in order to answer diagnostic questions, and how to ensure that evaluations are comprehensive enough to make educationally relevant decisions. Participants will learn diverse, in-depth assessment strategies to assist in better decision making as part of Tier 1 with the RTI continuum. This will include: what tools are available for Universal Screening in the area of Mathematics, what to do with Universal Screening data once it has been collected, evaluating your core instruction in the area of Mathematics and identifying when to move a student to tier 2 for additional assessments.
PRESENTERS
Misty Sprague works for Pearson as a National Training Consultant. She assists in the development of training materials and provides on-site and web-based training for Learning Assessments, AIMSweb® and other Clinical Assessment products. Misty has a background as a school psychologist, student services coordinator, RTI consultant, and special education teacher. She holds an Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado.
In her previous roles, Misty has specialized as a Response to Intervention consultant and intervention specialist within her district. She is passionate about assessment and the integral role that it plays in student learning, accountability, motivation and effective instructional practices within school systems. Misty's professional affiliations include, the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and The Colorado Society for School Psychologist (CSSP).
Dr. Adam Scheller is a licensed and nationally certified School Psychologist in Maryland. He earned his Ph.D. in School Psychology from Duquesne University, with a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorders and cognitive neuropsychology within the scope of school-based practice. He completed training rotations at The Watson Institute and Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, with post-doctoral supervision at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD.
Prior to joining Pearson, Dr. Scheller worked with special education programs in both a Maryland public school and at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Scheller's clinical and training expertise is with the impact of cognitive functioning on learning, behavior, and socialization in children affected by Traumatic Brain Injury, Autism-Spectrum Disorders, and ADHD.
